Ashmead’s Kernel

Ashmead’s Kernel

Some apples have what seem crazy names, and Ashmead’s Kernel is one such apple. Planted from seed by Dr. Ashmead in the early 1700s in Gloucester, England, this small homely yellow-green apple holds a delicious surprise. One of the few apple varieties that adapted well in the New World, the Ashmead’s Kernel’s  honey-sweet and acidic flavour is a delight. Good for dessert, pies, and hard-cider, this apple stores well.
