Jonathan

Jonathan

As a little girl I had 3 apple trees in my backyard, 2 McIntosh and 1 young Jonathan.

I have eaten more Jonathan apples than any other variety,  surely hundreds. When Charles and I began the orchard and planned which heirloom apples to plant, the Jonathan was an obvious choice.

Discovered in Woodstock, New York before 1826 on the farm of Philip Rick, this Spitzenburg seedling is widely known and grown. The bright red medium—sized fruit is juicy with a sharp zingy flavour. While considered all-purpose, Jonathans are my favorite caramel apples.

We have been enjoying these this fall. The Jonathan was our best producer in 2022.
